B$ Help: Rules

Getting Started | Help Index | Creating an Account

These rules are also available in Dutch, Spanish, Malay, and Estonian. Please note that the English version (the current page) is the only official version of the rules. Translations are provided for guidance purposes only.

Important Legal and Privacy Information

Please read the BlogShares Terms of Service for full legal statements. Also read our Privacy Policy.

All rules below fall under the jurisdiction of the BSEC. Violation of these rules can be lead to BSEC action, up to and including account termination. Don't be a Cheatypants.

Note: If you're looking for the forum rules, they can be found here.

Section 1 - Site & Account Rules

Sub-Section A - Multiple Player Accounts

Players are not permitted to own or operate multiple accounts. This includes a player owning a premium and a free account.

Sub-Section B - Sale of Accounts by Players

The sale of accounts by players is illegal unless given prior approval by the Administration of BlogShares.

Sub-Section C - Bug and Exploit Discovery

Players are not permitted to exploit bugs and/or loopholes of any kind. This includes, but is not limited to, those that will disrupt service or allow a player to gain an unfair trading or profit advantage.

If a player does find a (potential) bug, the Administration should be contacted as soon as possible by private message via either the BlogShares Messaging system or the Forum Messaging system. A player is only allowed to communicate information regarding a bug and/or loophole privately to any member of the BSEC, Administration, or BoD. Any other communication of a bug and/or loophole is illegal. If any action results in strange effects, especially profitable effects, the player should not 'test' this extensively but report it and not pursue it any further.

Whether a player gets to keep the profit made from the bug will be at the discretion of the BSEC and/or the Administration.

Sub-Section D - Scripts and Bots

Any program that only reads information from the site is legal so long as it does not cause excessive strain on the server by making repeated requests within a short amount of time. Use of such programs is allowed with the understanding that the operator agrees to cease or modify use of the program if requested. If use of the program does not cease, appropriate action will be taken by the administration or BSEC.

Loading multiple pages, whether in multiple tabs or browser windows, from BlogShares at once is allowed. However, players are warned that they do so at their own risk. If the Game Administration find that any player is creating an excessive strain on the server, that player may be subject to a temporary IP ban so the system can be protected. Excessive strain includes, but is not limited to, opening dozens of tabs, loading pages with heavy database calls, and/or refreshing these pages on a frequent basis. Repeated violations of this policy may result in permanent IP bans or BSEC action.

The definition of 'bot' play includes any player-side automation of trading. This includes JavaScript, mouse scripting, or page-scrapers. It also includes using the auto-refresh functions of browsers to buy and sell ideas, raid ideas, buy and sell stocks, etc. These items remain illegal unless they are used for purposes explicitly and publicly endorsed by the administration. This endorsement will be determined on a case by case basis and no assumption of legality should be made. Please check with the BSEC or Administration if you are unsure about the legality of your script.

Manual refreshing of pages (by physically clicking the refresh option in your browser or using a keyboard shortcut key) to do the above is legal, provided that the excess-load clause above is not violated.

Sub-Section E - Chip Referrals

It shall be considered fradulent to obtain chips through the referral system by any manner other than a site visitor voluntarily clicking on your referal link.

Failure to follow this rule could result in a permanent ban from earning further referral chips, the loss of all chips fraudulently gained, and/or a permanent ban from the game.

Section 2 - Blogs & Artefacts

Sub-Section A - Blog Ownership

Blog Ownership confers a responsibility upon the blog owner to accurately represent the identity of the blog. No blog owner may intentionally misrepresent the identity of his or her blog by changing the URL or title to reflect that of another blog in an attempt to defraud investors or gain blog valuation by intercepting incoming links which do not rightfully belong to his or her actual blog. For example: you may not change the URL of your blog to persianblog.com unless you are the legal owner of that domain.

All claimed blogs must contain the claim code provided by BlogShares and visibly display the link back to BlogShares contained within the code. If the claim code is lost you can either request help replacing it in the forums or by emailing support. If the claim code is missing from a claimed blog for more than 30 (thirty) days, the owner risks having his or her ownership revoked by the system.

Sub-Section B - Gifting Shares

The system enforces the six-hour selling rule on gifts recieved. Gifts of any amount to any user are legal.

Sub-Section C - Artefact Usage

The following activities are clearly legal:
Artefact usage on any blog without limit.
Artefact usage by several players on a single blog or multiple blogs within a short time span.
Multiple uses of one artefact on any one blog.

Section 3 - Ideas & Markets

Sub-Section A - The Open Market

Most instruments in this game, including shares, ideas, and bonds, are traded in an open market in realtime. Other players may ruin opportunities you spot by buying or selling before you are able to complete your desired transaction. This is normal gameplay and should not be reported to Administration.

Sub-Section B - Excessive Bond Prices

Selling bonds at excessive prices is legal.

Section 4 - The Index, Voting, & Moderation

Sub-Section A - Voting Cooperation

Cooperative voting with correct votes is legal.

Sub-Section B - Voting Payments

Paying for correct votes with cash, stock, chips, or idea bonds is legal.

Sub-Section C - Industry Suggestions

Repeated inappropriate suggestions for industries or sub-industries may result in administrative and/or BSEC action.

Sub-Section D - Alternative URLs and Reported Errors

Repeated attempts to suggest incorrect Alternative URLs or Errors for listed blogs may result in administrative and/or BSEC action.

Repeated attempts to make incorrect reports through the automated dead blog system or evidence of pass-through reporting may result in administrative and/or BSEC action.

Sub-Section E - Adding Blogs

Only sites which meet the definition of a blog as defined by BlogShares may be added to the index. Adding non-blogs, spam, or any other URL that is not an acceptable blog to the index is illegal and may result in administrative and/or BSEC action.

Sub-Section F - Other Guidelines

Players are to refer to the Voting and Moderating Guidelines which begin on node 94 of the BlogShares Help system and to stay informed about any changes or additions to those guidelines. They are to be considered a sub-set of these rules.

Section 5 - Advertisements

Sub-Section A - Text Ads

It is legal to advertise or list auction notices in text ads.

Attacking other BlogShares players is illegal and your ad will be removed with no refund. Repeated abuse will yield further BSEC or administrative action.

The Administration reserves the right to cancel any ad at any time for any reason, without notice, and without compensation.

Sub-Section B - Click Ads

It is legal to advertise or list auction notices in click ads.

Attacking other BlogShares players is illegal and your ad will be removed with no refund. Repeated abuse will yield further BSEC or administrative action.

The Administration reserves the right to cancel any ad at any time for any reason, without notice, and without compensation.

Sub-Section C - Press Releases

Auctions and advertisements in press releases are illegal; this includes both on and off-site ones.

Attacking other BlogShares players is illegal. Your press release will be removed with no appeal. Repeated abuse will yield BSEC or administrative action. Malicious posts or repeated abuse may result in immediate BSEC or administrative action.

The Administration reserves the right to remove any press release at any time for any reason, without notice, and without compensation.

Sub-Section D - Missions

It is illegal for the mission owner to distribute chips to an entrant for the purpose of having those chips returned to him or her.

Any mission which involves a link exchange or paid linking service must be placed under the "Link Exchange" category.

Attacking other BlogShares players is illegal and your mission will be removed with no refund. Repeated abuse will yield further BSEC or administrative action.

The Administration reserves the right to remove any mission at any time for any reason, without notice, and without compensation.

Section 6 - Community Behavior

Sub-Section A - Personal Messages

It is legal to send a personal message to another player.

It is legal to block messages from another player for any reason.

If a player receives any unwanted messages from another user, it is strongly recommended that they simply use the blocking feature to cease any further communication.

However, exceptionally vulgar or threatening messages sent to players through the personal message system may yield BSEC or administrative action.

Appendix

While we strive to make the most inclusive set of rules possible, there is always the chance of a situation which we cannot forsee.

Therefore, it should be noted that the administration reserves the right to take any and all actions necessary to protect players and/or the integrity of the game and index as they see fit.
