Before you go on, I will introduce myself.
My Name is Drue Powers, and I am currently employed by the Montgomery County, Iowa Sheriffs Office as Chief Deputy Sheriff.
The Montgomery County Sheriffs Office Serves a small county of approximately 432 square miles and some 13,000 residents in rural Southwest Iowa. The office consists of Sheriff Tony Updegrove, eight sworn deputies, one clerk, seven telecommunicators and eight jail security officers.
Several of the office staff have training in several specialized areas. These areas of endeavor are Firearms Training, Crime Scene Examaintion, Defensive Tactics Training, Technical Motor Vehicle Traffic Accident Investigation, Narcotics Investigation and Criminal Investigation. Four deputies are active members of the Iowa Law Enforcement Intelligence Network (LEIN).
Prior to my employment with the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office, I was employed by the Des Moines, Iowa Police Department Identification Section as an Identification Technician
The Des Moines Police Department, Identification Section Responds to crimes which range from the simplest of Thefts to the most complex Multiple Death Scenes. In addition to the duties of evidence documentation, collection and Crime Scene Reconstruction, the section is also charged with the identification of arrestees brought to the City of Des Moines Detention center. Over 5,000 arrestees are fingerprinted and photographed by the section each year, not to mention the fingerprinting of the public for such things as naturalization, licensing and civil service applications.
Prior to my employment with the Des Moines Police Department, I served the Red Oak, Iowa Police Department as a Police Officer, where I conducted Patrol and Investigation functions for the agency. The Red Oak Police Department serves a community of approximately 7,000 persons, and employs 10 Full-time Certified Police Officers, as Well as 10 Part-time/Reserve Police Officers, who are also certified by the State of Iowa.
In my own time, I am active in Amateur Radio, and Photography. I am also currently serving the Iowa Division of the International Association for Identification as a member of the Board of Directors.
