Who was Laban Tolle?

It is certain that Laban Tolle is a descendant of Roger Tolle of Fauquier County, Virginia, but so far no one has been able to find the missing link for him. No one has found who his parents are.

LABAN TOLLE was born about 1796, probably in Virginia. The first record that he is found in was the 1819 City Directory for Cincinnati, Ohio. He was listed as a Drayman, living at 45 Lower Market Street. He married Mary Ann/Polly Rook on 17 May 1821 at Lewis County, KY. The bondsman was Joseph Ruke/Rook. (Book A, page 33, #327)

The children of Laban & Mary (Rook) Tolle were:
1) Hiram Alexander Tolle b 29 Oct 1821
2) Frances Tolle
3) Richard H. Tolle
4) Lucy Ann Tolle
5) a female, possibly Malissa A. Tolle
6) John James Tolle
7) Warner Wilson Tolle
8) William W. Tolle b 23 Jan 1836
9) Lemuel U. Tolle
10) Joseph D. Tolle
11) Nancy E. Tolle b Jun 1843
12) Mary Parker Tolle b 19 May 1845

Mary died on 30 September 1856 at the age of 54, and Laban married again to a woman named Lavina who had been married first to a man named Davis. This marriage took place on 8 Aug 1859 at Mason County, KY. Their bondsman was John W. Holliday.

Laban was on the Lewis County, KY tax lists for 1825-1828 and mentioned in the Lewis County History. He was listed on the Mason County, KY tax books for 1830-1835. He was on the census of 1830 through 1870. In 1870 he was age 73 and living in the home of his son Lemuel in Brown County, Ohio.

Laban's descendants have been easily tracked, but his ancestry just keeps evading us.
