Help Save Sydney's Working Harbour
The Save Sydney Harbour Campaign launches Saturday 11 March 2006!
A public rally will be held at Observatory Hill starting at 11am.
"This is a call to arms for the people of Sydney", said City of Sydney Councillor, Marcelle Hoff.
"90 hectares of Sydney Harbour land is at stake; either we save it or the government flogs it to the highest bidder.
Speakers will include Tom Uren, Robert Coombs and Phil Jenkyn.
Make sure your voice is heard on this important day of action.
WORK TO SYDNEY'S WORKING HARBOUR BEFORE IT IS LOST FOREVER
"The Government's case is so embedded in crass commercialism, in which property values are the sole compass for planning, or the Government does not comprehend the consequence of its actions."
Editorial, Sydney Morning Herald 14 May 2005
The Working Harbour Coalition calls upon the NSW Government to:
Secure Port Jackson's ongoing role as a working harbour with the existing volume and mix of cargoes.
Assure Sydney's irreplaceable foreshore wharf land remains in perpetuity under public ownership.
Develop satellite port facilities for immediate regional needs and for further use as Port Jackson and Port Botany ultimately exceed their capacity.
Provide long term strategic planning with full transparent and democratic consultation with all stakeholders, culminating in a published master plan.
End the 'secret deals with the mate's syndrome' that is destroying our state.
